Fringe has been such a huge hit lately and I have fully embraced this trend through fringe heels, a fringe crossbag, a fringe belt so I had to take it to the next level with a DIY fringe project. I decided why not spice up an old denim blouse and prep for fall fashion with a super easy fashion transformation. I will be showing you guys how to create your own fringe jean jacket and don't worry, sewing skills are not necessary because we will actually be using Scotch™ Essentials products from your local Walmart store. So let's get started!

You are going to need the following:
Old Denim Blouse / Jacket

Colorful Faux Leather or Suede Fabric

Scotch™ Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips

 Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape

Metal Craft Studs

Fun Pinback Buttons

Scissors

Step 1: Grab your old denim blouse or jacket and the piece of leather or suede fabric of your choice. In this case I bought a men's button up from my local thrift store because I wanted the over-sized feel to it, and it was just $5 so huge score! Decide where you want the fringe to be placed on your jacket because that's where we are going to apply the Scotch™ Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips. To make it easy, I recommend carefully positioning the strips with the attached brown paper backing just below the horizontal back seam. The good thing is this product is versatile and works for other fabric projects, not just for hemming pants.

Step 2: After rubbing firmly you are going to carefully and slowly remove the backing leaving the adhesive behind from the Scotch™ Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips. Then place the piece of suede fabric on top and press down to make sure fabric is secured. If you are wondering about laundry at this moment, no worries, the bond will hold securely through cold water wash and low temperature dry cycle as long as its 24 hours after application. Now grab your scissors because it's time to get ready for the fringe effect.

Step 3: It's the moment you have all been waiting for, creating the DIY fringe. I decided to have one inch fringe pieces, but the width is all up to you just make sure to leave approximately 1.5 inches along the top of the fabric uncut, which you will use to attach studs. To make a clean cut line you can also use a razor blade but I'll be using a pair of scissors to stay on the safer side. And if you have a hard time cutting straight lines you can use fabric chalk and a ruler to guide you. After you cut all your fringe pieces it's time to add the metal studs along the seam. I picked up some gold circle metal studs with prongs from Walmart, they are super easy to install.

Step 4: I mean technically you can end the DIY project at the previous step but I wanted to take it up a notch and bring the party to the front as well. I also found some fun pinback buttons with cute quotes and images at Walmart. I added them to the top front and also applied some more studs to the collar. In this area you can be as creative as you wish to be. And to top it all off I applied Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape after rolling the sleeves up that way they can stay in place. Don't worry, this specific one is not permanent as the one we used on the back, it can easily be removed just in case you want to use the full sleeve.

I would love to see what fabric projects you guys come up with, but in the mean time click here to see what other easy wardrobe solutions people have created using Scotch™ Essentials.
