Easy Ideas for Celebrating the Holidays with Family and Friends

Being from a Hispanic family we use to celebrate Christmas with a huge party filled with family and friends on Christmas Eve back when I lived in Queens, New York. We would dance the night away, eat empanadas and anxiously wait until midnight to open gifts. Sounds like fun, huh? Well it was, it was amazing; however, ever since we had moved to Miami, FL things have been really different and it took some time to adjust to the old family traditions without all my aunts, uncles and cousins. So instead of focusing on the fact that it was a lonelier holiday than usual we decided to create new traditions. Let's just say that I have been blessed to build new experiences with family and friends that my holiday schedule now consists of multiple parties, dinners and gatherings. Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. One of my holiday season favorites is The Ugly Sweater Party with close friends. I started this tradition last year with my boyfriend and decided to keep it alive for years to come. It's a great way to get all your friends in the holiday spirit by inviting them to show off their tacky Christmas sweaters. With some beer and fun games, your guests will be waiting for next year's invitation. Formal Christmas Dinner. Of course we need to eat for the holidays so for the past few years I have been attending my boyfriend's family Christmas dinner. But now I just try my best to be open to trying new things because we all know a constant refusal of food can be a bit disrespectful. Wear Matching Christmas Pajamas: As you get older you'll notice that Christmas is not really about the gift giving but more on the time spent with your loved ones. So instead of waiting until midnight we decided to wake up early on Christmas morning and wear cute matching Christmas pajamas to open gifts and indulge on a delicious brunch. Matching Christmas pajamas can add a feeling of togetherness for your family. And although it can be a little corny, it has created a special bond and we look forward to doing the same thing every year. Hopefully we can one day pass the tradition down to our own children.
